About

The Society of Sociologists of Romania (SSR) is an association of specialists who, through their professional activity, have contributed and continue to contribute to the scientific understanding of Romanian social, political, and economic realities. The purpose of SSR is to promote the profession of sociologist and sociological research at both national and international levels.

SSR Membership Tax 2024

To become a full member of the Romanian Sociologists’ Society, you must pay the membership fee for the year 2024. Members will benefit from a reduced fee at conferences organized by the SSR, as well as other benefits.

The SSR Conference 2024

We look forward to welcoming you to the Romanian Sociologists Society International Conference, INTERSECTIONS 2024: Structures and Flows. Exploring Multiplexity in Contemporary Sociology. The 2024 SSR conference is organised in memoriam Professor Lazăr Vlăsceanu to honor and acknowledge his significant contributions to the development of sociology as a discipline in Romania. The conference will take place on October 24 and 25 2024, in Bucharest, at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work (90 – 92 Panduri Blvd., Bucharest, 050663, Romania). The theme of the SSR 2024 international conference addresses the concept of multiplex sociology, in which the connection of theories and methodologies is accomplished within a horizon of multiple valences.

He is also a courtesy faculty member in the Bureau of Economic and Business Research of the University of Florida, USA, where until recently he was assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. He is especially interested in the way networks of social interactions, relationships and support develop in immigrant communities and shape immigrants’ lives and health in different countries. He has conducted research on the Sri Lankan community in Italy, West African immigrants in Spain, Roma people in France, and Mexican farm workers in Florida. He is also interested in the study of science and scientific collaboration, particularly in research related to health and sustainability. Over the last decade, he has led the implementation of the "Educate Me First" program for the prevention of child labor in Colombia, Honduras, and Peru. He was the founder and coordinator of the Master's Degree in Psychology of Social and Community Intervention (2010-2013), and coordinator of the Doctoral Program "Social Intervention with the Community" (2007-2013). Isidro Maya Jariego has directed and participated in research projects funded by the European Commission and by national research agencies in Spain, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico, among others. After his PhD in sociology from Universität Stuttgart (Germany) in 2007 he completed a post-doc at Columbia University 2007-2008, working with Harrison White and Charles Tilly on the theory of social networks. More information about Jan Fuhse can be accessed at: www.janfuhse.de/index.html 🔹 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Following several strands of sociological theory (most importantly: relational sociology around Harrison White), Jan Fuhse regards social structures as composed of social networks which are interwoven with meaning. Precisely, according to his approach, networks exist as relational expectations emerging, stabilizing, and changing over the course of communicative events. Consequently, network research has to focus on both the symbolic and the communicative-dynamic side of social networks. More recently, he used a mix of qualitative interpretation of communicative events and formal quantitative analysis to reconstruct constellations in political discourse both in contemporary Germany and in the Weimar Republic.This includes the use of computational social science methods, especially quantitative text analysis.
