🔹 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐚: Raffaele Vacca is a sociologist at the University of Milan, Italy, in the Department of Social and Political Sciences and the Behave Lab. He is also a courtesy faculty member in the Bureau of Economic and Business Research of the University of Florida, USA, where until recently he was assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminology. 🔹 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Most of his work is concerned with social networks, migration, and health in Europe and the USA. He is especially interested in the way networks of social interactions, relationships and support develop in immigrant communities and shape immigrants’ lives and health in different countries. He has conducted research on the Sri Lankan community in Italy, West African immigrants in Spain, Roma people in France, and Mexican farm workers in Florida. He is also interested in the study of science and scientific collaboration, particularly in research related to health and sustainability. Part of his work is methodological research on network analysis and statistical modeling for social network data.![]()

🔹 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐫𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐉𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐠𝐨: Isidro Maya Jariego is Professor of Psychology at the University of Seville, and Principal Researcher of the Personal Networks and Communities Laboratory (HUM-059). Over the last decade, he has led the implementation of the "Educate Me First" program for the prevention of child labor in Colombia, Honduras, and Peru. 🔹 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Isidro Maya Jariego has published studies on typologies of personal networks, acculturation and psychological adaptation of immigrants, social cohesion in fishing communities, and implementation of programs to prevent child labor. He was the founder and coordinator of the Master's Degree in Psychology of Social and Community Intervention (2010-2013), and coordinator of the Doctoral Program "Social Intervention with the Community" (2007-2013). Isidro Maya Jariego has directed and participated in research projects funded by the European Commission and by national research agencies in Spain, Colombia, Chile, and Mexico, among others. He is currently a member of the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) and the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA). ![]()

🔹 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐡𝐬𝐞: Jan Fuhse is senior lecturer (Privatdozent) at Humboldt University of Berlin. After his PhD in sociology from Universität Stuttgart (Germany) in 2007 he completed a post-doc at Columbia University 2007-2008, working with Harrison White and Charles Tilly on the theory of social networks. 🔹 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Following several strands of sociological theory (most importantly: relational sociology around Harrison White), Jan Fuhse regards social structures as composed of social networks which are interwoven with meaning. Precisely, according to his approach, networks exist as relational expectations emerging, stabilizing, and changing over the course of communicative events. Consequently, network research has to focus on both the symbolic and the communicative-dynamic side of social networks. More recently, he used a mix of qualitative interpretation of communicative events and formal quantitative analysis to reconstruct constellations in political discourse both in contemporary Germany and in the Weimar Republic.This includes the use of computational social science methods, especially quantitative text analysis. Other fields of his work, past and current, include the sociology of the political field, socio-cultural networks in mass-media communication and on the internet, and the role of theory in the social sciences.![]()
